The Former Kroger Executive, Turned Local Grocer

Echo
This photograph shows Albers Supermarket on Hamilton Avenue in the late 1950s. In the early 1930s, William H. Albers (1895 to 1944) a Kroger executive, severed his ties and opened up one of the first supermarkets in Ohio. Selecting items from shelves rather than asking a clerk was what made Albers unique than other Northside grocers. Albers operated here until the 1960s when a new store was built on Turrill Street, (Courtesy of Don Beimesche.)
