Echo

The American Can Building at Spring Grove Avenue was built in 1921 by company engineer Carl G. Preis. The company invented machinery to make the sanitary can, flat and cone top of beer cans, and high-speed vacuum packing of coffee. As Northside's largest factory, it made parts for the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force during World War II. After closing in the 1950s, the property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.
