Miller was a Civil War veteran, director of the board of elections, and Cincinnati School Board President. Miller is also credited as being the go-to undertaker for the group of Scottish Travelers, incorrectly known as Gypsies, who make an annual Memorial Day visit to Spring Grove Cemetery.
