Echo
The Liberty Theater at 3938 Spring Grove Avenue was built in 1909 for Henry Levy. Blazing with red, white, and blue lights spelling “Liberty” on its pediment, it featured silent pictures with a live piano accompaniment by William H. Schmitt and a vaudeville show on Friday nights. Closing in 1929, it became the Liberty Chili Parlour. Kay's Restaurant took over in 1954 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
