The Park Telephone Exchange, with a ghostly past, opened in 1903, when a telephone service was a luxury. On the night of November 2nd, 1904, Alma Steingeweg, an exchange operator here, left work and became one of the five victims of the “Cumminsville Ripper”, who terrorized Northside from 1904 to 1910. The victims were found mutilated near the streetcar tracks by Spring Grove Cemetery. Despite the national buzz, the Cumminsville Ripper was never found.
